Noam Chomsky: Philosophies of Language & Politics
Noam Chomsky, cognitive scientist, philosopher and political activist of world renown - "the intellectual's Michael Moore" - gives an informative insight into his philosophy in this hourlong interview with The Commonwealth Club's Larry Bensky, recorded in June 2009.
Among the numerous topics discussed are Israel's nuclear program (and the US protection thereof), the appeal of rightwing mainstream media and their dangerous message as well as the merits and weaknesses of the internet as a serious informational medium.
I found Chomsky to be a reflected and eloquent man whose reasoning seems to be based upon solid fact - which makes some of his conclusions all the more unsettling.
My overall impression however, was that he, despite the cynicism one often finds in scholars in Chomsky's field of expertise, has yet to lose confidence in mankind's general ability to establish a peaceful and rewarding existence, instead of eradicating itself either by nuclear warfare or environmental destruction.
A valuable introduction to the Essential Chomsky! (an)
